About
I am a Historic Preservation major here at UMW, which has been a bittersweet experience. I entered the program at what was probably the worst time possible, and got unlucky with several professor/class pairings. The department has been in a state of flux for 3 of my 4 years–with the most senior professor retiring, another great one leaving, one on leave, and a few temporary professors. Oh well, such is life.
I am still trying to work out my plans for life after graduation. I am seriously considering going back to school for my RN degree, a drastic change from Historic Preservation. I liked my major, but not enough to go to graduate school yet. I have the summer to work, and look for a job or internship in my field, or apply to a school for nursing, or both.
College has been an eye opening experience. As a freshman you go in with a narrow view of things, you will pick your major, get your degree, immediately get a job, and you are set. Going away to school made life more complicated, but now I realize that I literally can do anything I want as long as I am willing to work at it. It just takes a little more time. Even though my future is still uncertain, I am not too worried about it, I can make it work whatever I decide.
